birthday tea

Alice Kingsley: Sometimes I believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
The Mad Hatter: That is an excellent practice.

Bebe’s birthday has come along while we’ve been traveling, and our families (especially my amazing & talented sister) helped us put together a wonderful celebration: a Mad Hatter Birthday Tea.

birthday candles

Cupcakes, cake pops, googly-eyed flowers, silly hats, my mother’s unexpectedly vast collection of tea kettles, and finger foods for all ages. And did I mention the silly hats?

A lovely and very lively day, as different from the past two years as Bebe himself. This year, instead of passing out in happy exhaustion wearing a wee santa suit, Bebe passed out in happy exhaustion wearing a red-checkered chef’s hat on his sweaty little head. With a little rolling pin and a toy stand-mixer nearby, ready for more excited hours of “I cooking!.” Yep: that’s definitely our boy.
