Recap 1: late August adventures

3 09 2009

Too busy lately to pause and write, but I’ve finally found a small pocket of time to catch up. Here and following are a few recaps of the last weeks of August.

Adventures in babywearing are always fun, whether it’s cooking dinner or going out into the world in one of our many carriers. (Here we’re using a Kozy Carrier.) We have found that we love, love, love being carried around on Mama’s back or Daddy’s belly.

country drives

We also love explorations by car, and it is so lovely here: long corridors of trees, rolling fields of corn and soy. We drive to our favorite farmstand every week, where the season’s selections include peaches, berries, tomatoes, melons, sweet tiny apples, free-range eggs, and corn.  Such tasty additions to our nightly side salads.

cucumber salad

Quick Cucumber Salad (serves 2)
1 large cucumber, sliced
1/4 shallot, minced
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 tsp olive oil
1 tsp tarragon
pinch salt

Toss cucumber slices and minced shallot in bowl with olive oil & vinegar. Add tarragon & salt. Chill in fridge for 10-15 minutes (cucumber will pickle slightly). Add blackberries. Serve & savor!
